WHY VOLUNTEER?
Bikes have the ability to connect people to each other and to their community, providing opportunities for more access, more movement, more exploration, and more joy.
Bikes really can have such a positive impact so we would like to see a world where everyone can be on a bike if they choose to, without all of the barriers that currently limit us. Imagine how awesome it would be if everyone was able to ride a bike, no matter their reason.
New Hope Community Bikes is a cycling education charity. We try our best to create equitable access to cycling, working to make sure that more people have access to bikes and everything that they unlock, both mentally and physically.
Through the shop, we are able to keep people moving by selling new and refurbished bikes or by fixing the bikes they already own. We are able to utilise volunteers to achieve this goal and our volunteers make an impact on our community daily.
Through our programs we are able to provide access to cycling education and experiences that build knowledge and confidence in riders who want it, empowering them to feel more comfortable on a bike without feeling intimidated.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers will work in the shop or ‘on-site’ fixing and refurbishing bikes. In addition to fixing or refurbishing bikes, volunteer shop mechanics will also have the opportunity to work with customers who need some help with their personal bikes. Volunteer shop mechanics will interact with customers interested in purchasing bikes, finding used/new parts, and keeping the workspace clean and inviting for all who use it.
An individual working with Cycling Without Age (CWA) will be working with a senior population, providing rides on the Trishaw which is an E-assist tricycle. Volunteers will have the opportunity to either pilot the Trishaw or be a buddy cyclist to the pilot. Individuals will interact with participants and staff at senior residences.
A Ride Smart volunteer will help execute the Ride Smart, cycling education program for youth or new adult riders. In this program, volunteers will execute cycling drills with groups of youth ages 8-12 either in schools or at community events.
An individual volunteering with our Women’s programing will participate and organize events geared towards women. These include Basic Bike Repair(BBR) and Tour de Cafe cycling events. Volunteers will lead or sweep a ride, prioritize getting to know members of the Women’s Programming group, plan rides for Tour de Cafe, lead/assist BBR, help staff expand women’s specific events within the cycling community.
Media Development
A Media development volunteer will assist New Hope staff with creating social media content, maintaining the website, and promotional content.
