In 2015, after a youth delegation to council, the City of Hamilton built a “pilot project” pump track in Gage Park. By 2019 the pilot had been deemed a success and a permanent fixture in the park.
With a mission to continuously find new ways to provide access to bikes, New Hope devised a plan to offer bicycle and helmet lending at the pump track so even more children, youth and adults could make use of the track.
With funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation equipment was purchased and the program was staffed for the COVID summer of 2020.
Staff lent out bikes, completed basic repairs and fit helmets at the pump track. This program was a huge success with 316 bike sign outs, 201 basic repairs, and they counted 991 track users during their 8 weeks staffing the program.
Riders came from all across Hamilton to check out the Pump Track and borrow a bike. Check out the map below! (Map Data 2021 Google)
